Fourier ptychographic microscopy

Fourier ptychographic microscopy (FPM) is a recently developed computational technique for wide field, high resolution, and quantitave phase imaging. The FPM setup is a conventional microscopy which replaces its common light source with a programmable light emitting diode(LED) array.

By sequentially turning on single LED element in the matrix, the thin specimen is illuminated with oblique plane waves from different angles. The spectrum of the specimen illuminated by LEDs with different angles can carry some frequency components which are beyond the NA of the objective lens. By iteratively stitching them together, a high NA and high-resolution image can be got.
